Short summary
Water constantly flows between rivers, soils, and aquifers, but capturing this accurately in numerical models is difficult. Detailed models are too expensive for regional use; simpler ones lack the resolution to track groundwater and soil moisture correctly. We built a model bridging this gap using two interchangeable numerical approaches. Tests across six soil types showed near-centimetre groundwater accuracy, making it suitable for ensemble simulations and regional climate-impact studies.
