Short summary
This study presents the first open-source release of a tool that automatically generates chemical mechanisms for the atmospheric oxidation of organic compounds. Simulations for five hydrocarbons, under conditions ranging from urban to remote, are compared with a benchmark mechanism. Results show that describing successive oxidation steps is key to simulating the formation of low-volatility and water-soluble species important for aerosols. A reduced mechanism reproduces most of these results.
