Short summary
The cryosphere, including snow, ice, and melt ponds, strongly influences how sunlight is reflected and absorbed, affecting climate change. We developed a new version of radiative transfer model SCIATRAN, to better represent these complex surfaces and their interaction with the atmosphere. The model was validated using real measurements and showed good accuracy. These advances help scientists better understand climate processes in polar regions and improve satellite observations.
